Are you ready to dive into a world of colour and art in the city? Street Art it is!
BIG CITY LIFE - 22 international artists for 22 dream murals!
In recent years, colours have begun to make their way through many of Rome's streets, helping to improve the appearance of many neighbourhoods: decorating the capital with vibrant colours that have then shaped real works of art has been the project of many. The primary objective is a healthy re-urbanisation, particularly in the suburbs but not only there.
The "Big City Life" project was launched for and in the Tor Marancia suburb on 8 January 2015 and concluded on 27 February of the same year.
In these 70 days, 22 international artists have amicably "challenged each other" to create 22 murals that literally take your breath away! Their artistic weapons? The beauty of almost 800 litres of paint and a thousand spray cans that have breathed new life into the facades of the 11 buildings that make up the Via di Tor Marancia n. 63 complex.
But that's not all! Admiring a building is not difficult given its size, but since not all the murals are visible when looking at the district from the outside, we will also take you to the centre of the district so that you can also enjoy the works on the internal facades and who knows... maybe even have interesting encounters with the residents of the area who all have intense stories to tell you, first and foremost that of their building!
STREET ART AND COLOURS... BUT ALSO MUCH MORE - The experience of the neighbourhood.
The beauty of this project lies in the fact that we are not just talking about famous artists who have joined forces and embellished an unkempt area of Rome. No! This fantastic artistic idea conceals the union of the people of Lotto 1 and tells their stories through unique drawings and colours.
What does the 'Big City Life' project really represent? A world beyond art!
Action: it's not a film, but it's still art, so... ACTION! 22 works needed people to take care of the organisation, realisation and documentation of their birth! It was a lot of work!
Participation: the inhabitants of the neighbourhood were met to agree on the choice of works, involved in their creation and "trained" to enhance and protect them. The interesting tidbit is that each mural has something to do with the history of the building!
Training: Street Art and its teachers have literally "done school" through creative workshops and professional training. Students from primary and secondary schools, the two local high schools and neighbourhood associations have been transformed into great little artists!
Socialising: and when they say "business before pleasure" this is exactly what the students, residents and neighbourhood associations did once the work was finished: they joined together and celebrated the beauty of the murals and the new look of their neighbourhood.
City Beautification: let art and beauty in general, but especially of the city, belong to everyone, in all its ways!
Urban requalification: talent, paint and participation; 3 precious ingredients to make the Tor Marancia district an open-air artistic masterpiece.
Active citizenship: the unusual coming together of a neighbourhood community to discuss and make unusual choices. Also crucial was the work done with schools to stimulate future generations in the trades and practices of contemporary art.
Tourist attraction: an open-air treasure to be protected but at the same time to be enhanced and promoted, with all the pride of those who are custodians of these open-air works of art!
