  • Dress code: This tour visits religious sites. Please dress appropriately. No sleeveless blouses, no miniskirts, no shorts, and no hats.
  • Cloakroom: The following must be left in the cloakroom:
  • Suitcases, backpacks and containers larger than 40x35x15cm
  • Umbrellas, including those with spike tips, medium and large size
  • Walking sticks (except those required by disabled visitors)
  • Tripods for cameras and video cameras
  • Signage of any kind
  • Shoulder bags no wider than 15 cm are allowed
  • For the issuance of Vatican Museums tickets, providing a first name and surname is mandatory. Without this information, the ticket cannot be issued. It is also mandatory to bring your passport on the day of the tour.

Worth booking the skip-the-line tickets as you really actually do skip the line. We booked an 8.15 slot, picked up tickets at 8 and were walking around the museum by 8.30 having bypassed the most enormous queues. The art collection is worth seeing, the gardens are lovely to picnic in (we took food with us), but the Sistine Chapel route is insane at times. We hear that if you book a guided tour you go a more direct route to the chapel and straight into St Peters as well. Worth investigating as we didn't fancy queuing in full sun for St Peter's. But the museum is extraordinary; look up at the ceilings, even in the 'dullest' of rooms collectionwise (Greek pots - sorry!) and look at the decorated walls and floors. Truly remarkable! The Sistine Chapel is exquisite.
