Rome, Italy is known as the eternal city. It is known for being the start of modern civilization with the mighty Roman Empire and being home to the Catholic religion. There is so much to see within in the streets of this city that it can be overwhelming. Today we are going to talk about the top 5 must see locations in Rome, Italy.
- The Colosseum. There is nothing more quintessential when visiting Rome than seeing the colosseum. Photos do not do this place justice. To see and marvel at this structure in person should be at the top of your list. I highly recommend booking a tour ahead of time with Grayline-I Love Rome so that you can skip the line and get a personalized tour of the Colosseum.
The Colosseum
2. The Vatican. The Vatican Museum and venues are a must see even if you are not a religious person. You will be inspired by the beautiful paintings that surround you from the walls to the ceiling. Purchasing another skip the line experience from Grayline-I Love Rome will allow you to maximize your time and learn more about the Vatican’s deep history. It is hard to believe that these halls filled with beauty were also the source of war and conquest.
3. Trevi Fountain. Can you say that you have been to Rome if you haven’t tossed a coin over your shoulder at the Trevi Fountain. This is a great free experience in Rome. I highly recommend getting to the fountain around sunrise or earlier in the morning. You will be able to get beautiful photos without the crowds.
4. Capitoline Hill. Rome is filled with beautiful streets and piazzas. The mother of them all is Capitoline Hill. This area dates back to the back to the early Roman Empire and even received a makeover by Michelangelo for a Pope. This area is a beautiful location for a walk and can keep you busy with access to the museums.
Campo de’ Fiori by night
5. Campo de’ Fiori. This is a personal favorite of mine. You can enjoy the farmer’s market in the morning and have dinner in the piazza at night while listening to live street performers. There are so many small shops and hidden frescos to discover on this area. It is also within walking distance of the Pantheon and Piazza Navona.
It is so hard to create a list of just five places in Rome to visit. You can never go wrong by just going for a walk around this beautiful city. If you only have a short time to visit, this list of the top 5 places to visit in Rome, Italy will give you the perfect taste!
